Benedict Arnold
Cotton Flag, 13 aluminum arrows
102" x 60" x 24"
2008
The flag of the United States of America is pierced through the back and hangs pinned against the wall by thirteen idealized arrows of American heraldry. The arrows are borrowed from the obverse of the American Great Seal and symbolically represent the American propensity for war. These neoclassical symbols are normally balanced by an opposing olive branch representing the American preference of peace, that is conspicuously absent in this scenario.
